Heliboarding Questions, Answered

What is heliboarding?

Heliboarding is snowboarding in remote backcountry terrain reached by helicopter instead of a chairlift. Heliskiing is the same experience on skis. Most operators guide both skiers and snowboarders in the same groups.

Where is the best place to go heliboarding?

Canada has the most operators in our directory (53 of 137), mostly in British Columbia's Selkirk, Monashee, Purcell and Coast Mountains. Alaska, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, Chile, India and Switzerland are other popular destinations.

When is heliboarding season?

In the Northern Hemisphere the main season runs from December to April, with Alaska and Norway often running into May. In the Southern Hemisphere, New Zealand and Chile typically operate from about July to September.

How much does a heliboarding trip cost?

Prices vary widely. Single-day heli trips are the most affordable option, while multi-day lodge packages from operators in our directory commonly run from about $6,000 to over $18,000 per person. Private group and ultra-luxury trips cost more.

Do I need to be an expert to go heliboarding?

No, but you should be a confident intermediate or better who can ride ungroomed terrain and powder. Many operators offer intro or day-trip packages for less experienced riders, and all trips are led by certified mountain guides.

Is the Heliboarding.com directory free?
